Some students at Yale-NUS College have raised concerns about decisions taken by the school administration in recent weeks.
For example, college space now cannot be utilized for any event that requires licences or permits under the Public Entertainments and Meetings Act or the Public Order Act. This policy change will affect events related to publicizing social causes.
Students feel this move curtails their expression of diverse views and ideas.
Yale-NUS claims that the new policy will help it optimize the allocation of resources, particularly for external events hosted on campus. It also said that students and faculty are free to invite speakers to campus without submitting an event approval form.
Students are also unhappy with the dissolution of a student graduation committee, and the suspension of the Yale-NUS International Relations and Political Association’s activities.
